Waiting On Wednesday #127 - Every Heart A Doorway

Waiting On Wednesday, where we put the spotlight on upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating, is hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine.

This week's choice is -

Every Heart A Doorway - Seanan McGuire
ISBN - 9780765385505
Publisher - Tor
Release date - April 5 2016

Eleanor West’s Home for Wayward Children

No Solicitations
No Visitors
No Quests

Children have always disappeared under the right conditions; slipping through the shadows under a bed or at the back of a wardrobe, tumbling down rabbit holes and into old wells, and emerging somewhere... else.

But magical lands have little need for used-up miracle children.

Nancy tumbled once, but now she’s back. The things she’s experienced... they change a person. The children under Miss West’s care understand all too well. And each of them is seeking a way back to their own fantasy world.

But Nancy’s arrival marks a change at the Home. There’s a darkness just around each corner, and when tragedy strikes, it’s up to Nancy and her new-found schoolmates to get to the heart of the matter.

No matter the cost.

I'm a huge fan of Seanan McGuire's (aka Mira Grant) writing especially her October Daye books so I'm really excited to read this new novella. It's vaguely reminiscent of Ransom Riggs' Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children series which I absolutely loved!

Top Ten #92 - Happy 5th Birthday TTT!

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the fabulous gals cover at The Broke & The Bookish. This week's topic is -

My Ten Favorite Top Ten Fifteen Topics I've Done

Hard to believe but Top Ten Tuesday has been around for five years! They've picked some fantastic topics in that time that really make you think. I've spent hours putting together my lists sometimes! In honor of TTT's fifth birthday here are my favorite topics from the time I've been joining in. Here's a hint though... I've done 92 Top Ten Tuesday posts now so it's not going to be just ten!

My first ever TTT, Spring 2013 TBR! Anybody like to hazard a guess as to how many of these books I've read now? I love doing the TBR posts if only to see what books I've might have missed.

Favorite Covers up to May 2013

Top Ten Books Featuring Travel In Some Way I went out of the box slightly and chose time travel!

Authors Who I Think Deserve More Recognition If I wrote this list today I would still include all five authors mentioned. Some have gained a bit more recognition and sadly, one is no longer with us.

Top Ten Books With X Setting I loved this topic! I chose the great city of London, but not as we know it...

Books I'd Like To See As Movies/Television Another great topic and I must be psychic as three on my list have been or are going to be tv shows!

Favorite Character Names

2014 Debut Authors I cannot believe that these were all 2014 releases! Looks guiltily at books still unread...

Books That Will Make You Cry Every single book on this list had me ranging from a few teary sniffles to full-on sobbing!

Bookish Bucket List This was a fun list to put together! Fifteen months later I have achieved one thing on that list.

Gateway Authors The authors that got me hooked on fantasy

Books I Want To Reread

2014 Releases I Never Read

Books From Childhood

Authors I Really Want To Meet

Book Haul #111, Or The One Where A Minor Miracle Happened...

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly event hosted on Tynga's Reviews where we can share what new books we've picked up this past week be they bought, borrowed or downloaded. There are also lots of other 'book haul' memes out there for you to choose from!

So... I haven't done a book haul post for nearly two months. It doesn't feel like it's been that long but blog posts don't lie! And, as the title suggests, I realized that in the last seven or so weeks I have only bought one book. That's it. It would appear that the way to stop me buying books is to be busy/tired/rundown/on holiday and not looking at the internet! But you know what this means? It's nearly ComicCon time so I can go mad without feeling guilty.

I may only have bought one book but I've received/downloaded some amazing review titles since the end of April. I'm not going to list them all (there's a lot!) but the books below are the ones I'm probably most looking forward to reading.

Waiting On Wednesday #126 - In The Labyrinth Of Drakes

Waiting On Wednesday, where we put the spotlight on upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating, is hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine.

This week's choice is -

In The Labyrinth Of Drakes (Lady Trent's Memoirs #4) - Marie Brennan
ISBN - 9780765377630
Publisher - Tor
Release date - April 5 2016

The thrilling new book in the acclaimed fantasy series from Marie Brennan, as the glamorous Lady Trent takes her adventurous explorations to the deserts of Akhia.

Even those who take no interest in the field of dragon naturalism have heard of Lady Trent's expedition to the inhospitable deserts of Akhia. Her discoveries there are the stuff of romantic legend, catapulting her from scholarly obscurity to worldwide fame. The details of her personal life during that time are hardly less private, having provided fodder for gossips in several countries.

As is so often the case in the career of this illustrious woman, the public story is far from complete. In this, the fourth volume of her memoirs, Lady Trent relates how she acquired her position with the Royal Scirling Army; how foreign saboteurs imperiled both her work and her well-being; and how her determined pursuit of knowledge took her into the deepest reaches of the Labyrinth of Drakes, where the chance action of a dragon set the stage for her greatest achievement yet.

Look at that cover... It's a thing of beauty! I can't wait to get my hands on a copy of this because of both the story and the cover. I'm a huge fan of Marie Brennan's work so I'm happy to see that we get two more instalments of Lady Trent's memoirs, I assume we'll see the final fifth volume in early 2017 :(

Top Ten #91 - Books On My TBR For Summer 2015!

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the fabulous gals cover at The Broke & The Bookish. This week's topic is -

Top Ten Twelve Books On My TBR For Summer 2015

As I have such an excellent track record of actually reading the books I put on these lists (Spring 2015 - read one title, Fall 2014 - read one title, and so on...) I thought it would be fun to put together my Summer TBR list if only to have a slightly hysterical laugh later over what books you can probably guarantee I won't read!

Bookmarked... #4

The return of the weekly post letting you all know what I'm reading and have lined up for the week! It's my own version of Sheila at Book Journey's It's Monday What Are You Reading and I have her permission to rename it for my own nefarious reasons :) If you want to join in check out all the links here!

Well, that turned into more of an extended holiday than I had planned! It nearly became a permanent break too, when I returned from France to over 4000 emails and a blog that had somehow managed to erase nearly all of the posts I had scheduled to go up while I was away. I cried... a lot. I'm still annoyed now but I love blogging so let's put it down to experience and move on. It's going to take a while to go through my email so bear with me if you're waiting for a reply!

I've managed to completely lose track of my challenge progress, mostly because I haven't been updating Goodreads but my book journal is (mostly) up to date and as soon as I get a spare five minutes I'll update my books. Hopefully that will mean a challenge update covering April, May and June at the beginning of next month. And how did it get to be halfway through June already?! Still, that means it's only a month until ComicCon!!!

Waiting On Wednesday #125 - Conspiracy of Angels

Waiting On Wednesday, where we put the spotlight on upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating, is hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine.

This week's choice is -

Conspiracy of Angels - Michelle Belanger
ISBN - 9781783297337
Publisher - Titan Books
Release date - October 27 2015
Find - Goodreads

Zack Westland awakens on the shore of Lake Erie, his memory gone. Assaulted by powerful psychic fragments, he learns that he belongs to a tribe of angels - one of several living on Earth since the Blood Wars. Pursued by cacodaimons intent on killing him - again - he seeks to end war between the tribes.

That must be one of the shortest blurbs I've ever read but the idea of tribes of angels living on earth intrigues me.  Plus, doesn't it sound just a little bit like Legion, starring Paul Bettany?!

More info coming if I find it!

Slasher Girls & Monster Boys - April Genevieve Tucholke (ed.)

For fans of Stephen King, Neil Gaiman, Lois Duncan, and Daphne Du Maurier comes a powerhouse anthology featuring some of the best writers of YA thrillers and horror

A host of the smartest young adult authors come together in this collection of scary stories and psychological thrillers curated by Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea’s April Genevieve Tucholke.

Each story draws from a classic tale or two - sometimes of the horror genre, sometimes not - to inspire something new and fresh and terrifying. There are no superficial scares here; these are stories that will make you think even as they keep you on the edge of your seat. From bloody horror to supernatural creatures to unsettling, all-too-possible realism, this collection has something for any reader looking for a thrill.

Fans of TV’s The Walking Dead, True Blood, and American Horror Story will tear through tales by these talented authors:

Stefan Bachmann
Leigh Bardugo
Kendare Blake
A. G. Howard
Jay Kristoff
Marie Lu
Jonathan Maberry
Danielle Paige
Carrie Ryan
Megan Shepherd
Nova Ren Suma
McCormick Templeman
April Genevieve Tucholke
Cat Winters

Eeeek! Look at that list of authors! Even if I didn't like short story collections or horror/thriller stories I think I'd be buying this one anyway. And I love the cover, it's kind of creepy in its own unique way...
