ARC August Final Update

ARC August is hosted by Octavia & Shelly over at Read Sleep Repeat. Well, I would say my stab at ARC August was pretty successful although discovering I've got dozens of reviews still to write wasn't quite what I wanted! In the end I read 7 books and am halfway through another one with another 17 to write reviews for. I think they're going to have to be very brief reviews otherwise I can see myself having to read them all again!

ARC August Update #3

ARC August is hosted by Octavia & Shelly over at Read Sleep Repeat.Well, this week didn't quite go as planned! Rather than making a serious dent in my Netgalley/Edelweiss/review books for Bout of Books I've been reading anything but. Ooops??? For this last week of ARC August I'm going to to my best to get at least 3 ARC's read and hopefully get some reviews written. If I achieve that I'll be happy, sort of...

Still Reading

I'm really enjoying The Unnoticeables but I only seem to be able to read it in small chunks! It's a very descriptive novel and as my concentration is shot at the moment I'm having trouble with the dual time periods. Remembering who's who is an even bigger job!

Finished This Week

I just discovered Lucy is going to be at BristolCon this year so will have to take my copy along to get signed! Expect a review sometime, we all know how behind I am...

ARC August Update #2

ARC August is hosted by Octavia & Shelly over at Read Sleep Repeat. After a pretty good start I seem to have stalled. I'm still reading Starborn and I've started one other book, that's it... I have also discovered there's quite a few titles on my Netgalley shelves that I've read but not reviewed so I need to start a separate list for that as well! It's Bout of Books this coming week so I'm hoping to get some serious reading done, check back next Sunday for my week three progress.

Challenge Update...April - July 2015

Oh dear... As a result of not bothering to keep Goodreads updated regularly and forgetting to fill out my book journal I've no idea where I currently stand with any of my challenges! I have a sneaky suspicion I may have to throw in the towel with the Fairy Tale Challenge and as for my Goodreads challenge, the less said the better.

Goodreads Challenge

Goal -

Read at least 300 books

Total so far -

139

This puts me at 46% for the year so far and 36 books behind schedule. I will leave my target at 300 until September and then I may have to reduce it *sadface* As ever, to see the list of books go here!

Fairy Tale Challenge

Hosted by Mel at the Daily Prophecy

Goal -

Wicked Fairy Godmother Level, 21 to 25 books

Books Read -

3

British Books Challenge

Hosted by Michelle at
Fluttering Butterflies

Goal -

Read at least 12 books by British authors

Books Read

17

Hurrah! I finished a challenge! I had an idea this might be the one I finished first, especially as I've read a lot of UKYA recently. I'll continue to keep track of any more books to see how I finish up at the end of the year.

2015 TBR Pile Challenge

Hosted by Evie at
Bookish

Goal -

Married With Children Level, 50+ books

Books Read

28

This hasn't gone up much as I've not been at home to read my own books...

Netgalley & Edelweiss Reading Challenge

Hosted by
Falling For YA

Goal -

Gold Level, 50 books

Books Read

This should shoot up after the end of the month, thanks mainly to my participation in ARC August!

ARC August

Hosted by Octavia & Shelly over at Read Sleep Repeat for the third year running it would be rude of me not to take part! My Netgalley/Edelweiss requests have steadily spiraled out of control so I'm putting my foot down and reading all ARC's all August. Should be easy even if I go a-wandering again because all I need is my Kindle...

Rules:

The rules are very simple
  • It may be a physical ARC or and eARC but it MUST be an ARC
  • Yes it can be an ARC that has released as long as it’s an ARC I’m not going to nit pick much
  • HAVE FUN WITH THIS! Feeling like you are being “forced” to read is the best way turn a fun event into a yucky obligation.
  • Update post! I personally will do a post for each Saturday in August but that’s just me. You can update once a week, every other week or once for the whole darn event. This update can be in the form of a blog or tumblr post, vlog, link to your “ARC August 2015″ shelf or even an instagram pic! I want to make this as easy and low pressure as possible for you.
I've no idea what I'm going to read, I'm thinking maybe I should do a Netgalley version of the TBR jar and do things that way?

If you too are embarrassed by your NG percentage then sign up here!

Challenge Update... March 2015

The end of another month so it must be time for the March challenge update! We are now one quarter of the way through the year rather scarily. Here's my reading progress and challenge updates up to and including the end of March. The challenge I'm struggling with most is the Fairy Tale Challenge, no idea why but I'm going to have to read a lot of fairy tales over the next nine months.

January Update
February Update

Goodreads Challenge

Goal -

Read at least 300 books

Total so far -

87

This puts me at 29% for the year so far and 13 books ahead of schedule.Considering we've just finished the first quarter of the year I'm really pleased that I've already met over a quarter of my final Goodreads total. I still have a bit of wiggle room if any reading slumps should hit. I also think the total for British Books Challenge is wrong but I can't figure out where... As ever, to see the list of books go here!

Challenges of 2015 AKA The Year I Remember To Keep Track Properly

In 2014 I signed up for four year long challenges. Except for my annual Goodreads challenge (which I had to adjust - downwards...) I have failed miserably. I think it was the trying to keep track of everything that tripped me up in the end and quite frankly it got to the point where I could not be bothered, thanks mainly to being ill and away from home far more than usual!

In 2015 I intend to be far more organized and up to date with blog/book stuff. In view of that fact I'm signing up for four challenges again. The first is the Goodreads annual challenge but can't kick that one off until January 1.

I expect I'll be setting this one somewhere around 300, less than previous years but up on what I achieved in 2014 hopefully!

http://evie-bookish.blogspot.co.uk/2014/12/2015-tbr-pile-reading-challenge-sign-ups.html?

Challenge 2 is a repeat, the TBR challenge hosted by Evie at Bookish. I completely lost track of what I was reading from my shelves this year as I was spectacularly bad at updating my book journal but having had a quick look it would appear that maybe a third of the books I read in 2014 were on my shelves. I'm going for the 50+ Married With Children level as in 2015 I'm determined to read even more of the books I already own. I'm also going to start a new book journal as I started the one I'm using now at the beginning of 2013 and I'm bored with it!

http://www.fallingforya.com/2014/12/2015-netgalley-edelweiss-reading.html

Challenge 3 is definitely a challenge tailor made for me. Every time I look at my Netgalley percentage I cringe and carry on requesting! It's like an illness... I'm slightly better on Edelweiss but matters aren't helped when you request a book and get approved for it 30 seconds later. Thanks to this well known illness I have enough books to keep me going for a while so fingers crossed this challenge helps me get my act together :) I'm going to start off going for Gold Level - 50 books, I can always go up a level if I find myself actually reading in 2015.

http://thedailyprophecy.blogspot.nl/2014/12/fairytale-retelling-reading-challenge.html
Challenge 4 is the Fairytale Challenge. This is the one challenge I really wanted to finish this year, between my never ending obsession with fairy tales and the number of books I own it should have been a breeze. Somehow, it wasn't... This might be the challenge I start working towards first, I have so many fairy tale books I want to read right now so I might as well make them count! I'm going for Wicked fairy Godmother level - 21 to 25 books but I may go up to Bluebeard (26 books+) depending on how the year goes.

http://www.flutteringbutterflies.com/2014/11/british-books-challenge-2015-sign-up.html
And last but not least, a late entry as challenge number 4, the British Books Challenge hosted by Michelle @ Fluttering Butterflies. I almost did this last year but somehow never got round to it. This year I'm going for it, mainly because I'm really curious to see just how many British authors I read in relation to the amount of books I read.

Books will include The Ghosts of Heaven by Marcus Sedgwick, A Wicked Thing by Rhiannon Thomas and The Dreamsnatcher by Abi Elphinstone.

Wish me luck and if you want to take part in any of the challenges just click the pic to take you to the sign-up page.

Clean Sweep ARC Challenge 2014 Results Post

My out-of-control ARC pile was dangerously large so I signed up to take part in the month long Clean Sweep ARC Challenge, hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer & Angela's Anxious Life. I didn't set out to read a certain number of ARC's or make a definite list because I always up reading little/none of what I intend to read! This worked well as I managed quite a few ARC's, admittedly some were for blog tours but that just meant I was reading them earlier than I normally plan to. I'm also sure I could have managed to read quite a few more than I did but there were so many good books calling my name this month. Here's a final list of what I did read with links to reviews on here or Goodreads.

Now, if I could just figure out a better way of organizing my ARC's I wouldn't get quite so snowed under. Looking forward to Netgalley November later on in the year though!

Book Haul #75

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly event hosted on Tynga's Reviews where we can share what new books we've picked up this past week be they bought, borrowed or downloaded. There are also lots of other 'book haul' memes out there for you to choose from!

I'm thinking that the restrainment of the last couple of weeks was maybe just a blip, see evidence below for proof... On the bright side I got some amazing books! I bought a couple of books I've already read (Year of the Ladybird & Thief's Covenant) but I wanted copies to keep. I may have gone a bit silly with the review books as well, there's just so many great books around at the moment. The highlight of the week though was being approved by Disney for Mary: The Summoning which featured in my Bloody Mary WoW special a couple of weeks ago!

Bought

Thief's Covenant | Rebel Belle | In The Shadows

Born of Illusion | Year of the Ladybird
From the publisher

Touchstone | Elsewhens
Blog Tour

Branded
Netgalley/Edelweiss

Haunt | Dead Girls Walking | MARY: The Summoning

Stone of Destiny | Blackbird | Snow Like Ashes

Clean Sweep ARC Challenge 2014

Are your ARC’s stacking up? Have published dates come and gone? Are you feeling like you need to get those piles under control? Are you avoiding NetGalley and Edelweiss? Or maybe you want to get ahead of your summer ARCS to make time for the beach? I answered yes to all but the last two of those questions - mainly because I don't do beach time and even though I am drowning under review copies I'm definitely not avoiding Netgalley & Edelweiss. I need to though, my ARC habit is way out of control so this is me trying to catch up a bit and being too desperate to wait for Netgalley November!

ARCs In April

So, yet again I'm snowed under with e-ARCs from Netgalley and Edelweiss! A while back I managed to get my virtual review pile under control but there are so many fabulous books that I can't help but request and/or download it's got to the point where I need to do something about it again...

Thanks to my love of alliteration I came up with ARCs In April! Between April 1st and April 30th I'm going to read nothing but ARCs. Hopefully this will make a significant dent in my pile so I can stop feeling guilty about all the wonderful books that I have requested/downloaded, stop feeling guilty about reading books that aren't ARCs and increase my percentage on Netgalley again...

I'm not going to put a figure on how many books I'm going to read, I always seem to fail when I do that but given how many I have to read I'm going to try and aim for a minimum of three a week. Feel free to join if you too have gone crazy clicking those 'request' or 'download' buttons, it would be great to have some support. I'll put up a post on April 1st with a list of books I'm hoping to read, if you feel like joining in leave a comment and I'll start a list :)

Book Haul #63

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly event hosted on Tynga's Reviews and Letterbox Love is a UK edition hosted by Narratively Speaking. Here we can share what new books we've picked up this past week. There are also lots of other 'book haul' memes out there for you to choose from!

Another book haul post... My outstanding ability to buy books continues although for once I haven't gone crazy and I do have a few review books as well! I posted my first monthly round-up post on Thursday and whilst I posted links to my book haul posts I didn't say how many books I'd bought. I think maybe I need to name & shame myself and share the total, it could well be the one thing that stops me from hitting buy/download quite so often! And look, Dark Days! After waiting patiently for this one by the lovely Kate Ormand it would have been rude not to get it when it popped up on Edelweiss earlier this week!

Bought

Eric | Sourcery | Mistwalker

Review - Edelweiss/Netgalley

Dark Days | The Night Gardener | The Well's End

Review - from the author

Thrall - Jennifer Quintenz
Review - from Bloomsbury

Mutant City - Steve Feasey
Doesn't that ARC look fantastic? That's the front and back covers for Mutant City, out in May this year. Steve Feasey was looking for volunteers on Twitter to review it and I put my hand up as the synopsis sounds great. Thank you Bloomsbury!

All I can say about this week's incoming books is oops! I was so good, I even resisted half of these titles on Edelweiss for nearly a month but they've been calling to me... And I may have gone slightly insane with the old download button... But on the other hand, I have Cress!!! Now I just need to read Cinder and Scarlet! I'll also admit to already owning a copy of Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson but at over one thousand pages the thing is darn heavy, especially in bed when you're trying to read under the quilt because it's so cold. I completely blame Shadowmagic on my brother-in-law, if he hadn't mentioned it in an email I could have forgotten it was on my wishlist and left it there for another year or two. Instead I forked over the princely sum of $1.63/99p for a copy, just don't tell my sister!

Bought

Cress - Marissa Meyer

Cruel Beauty - Rosamund Hodge

House of Shadow - Rachel Neumeier
