Waiting On Wednesday #122 - The Secrets of Drearcliff Grange School

Waiting On Wednesday, where we put the spotlight on upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating, is hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine.

This week's choice is -

The Secrets of Drearcliff Grange School - Kim Newman
ISBN - 9781781165720
Publisher - Titan
Release date - October 6 2015
Find - Goodreads

A week after Mother found her sleeping on the ceiling, Amy Thomsett is delivered to her new school, Drearcliff Grange in Somerset. Although it looks like a regular boarding school, Amy learns that Drearcliff girls are special, the daughters of criminal masterminds, outlaw scientists and master magicians. Several of the pupils also have special gifts like Amy’s, and when one of the girls in her dormitory is abducted by a mysterious group in black hoods, Amy forms a secret, superpowered society called the Moth Club to rescue their friend. They soon discover that the Hooded Conspiracy runs through the School, and it's up to the Moth Club to get to the heart of it.

Umm, may I have this now please? I love Kim Newman and so this is probably one of my more anticipated reads of this year! Creepy school, magic, secret society... What could be any better?

Book Haul #110, Or The One Where I Didn't Buy Any Books...

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly event hosted on Tynga's Reviews where we can share what new books we've picked up this past week be they bought, borrowed or downloaded. There are also lots of other 'book haul' memes out there for you to choose from!

Yes, you read that blog post title correctly! I didn't buy a single book this week, at least up until Thursday when I wrote this post. I may not have bought any books but I still spent a small fortune. I bought my tickets for ComicCon in London in July and booked my hotel room - six minute walk from the convention center, so probably just as well. I did get a couple of review titles this week though that I've been really looking forward to so that more than made up for it.

Last but not least, it's #Read-a-thon Day on Saturday! I think I'll mostly be updating on Twitter but I will have an ongoing blog post with book updates so if you feel like cheering me on that would be amazing!

Book Haul #104, Or The One With All The Library Books...

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly event hosted on Tynga's Reviews where we can share what new books we've picked up this past week be they bought, borrowed or downloaded. There are also lots of other 'book haul' memes out there for you to choose from!

It's been a good week in terms of book buying, just one book which was actually a preorder that I completely forgot was due out around now and a couple of review books that I'm excited about. The majority of my haul this week though is the giant stack of library books I somehow managed to acquire! Hopefully they'll keep me going for a while... There's a couple of -rereads in the pile and the only Mieville book I haven't read so fingers crossed it's as good as the rest!

Top Ten Tuesday #70 - Books & Movies For Getting In The Halloween Spirit

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the fabulous gals cover at The Broke & The Bookish. This week's topic is -

Top Ten Books/Movies To Read Or Watch To Get In The Halloween Spirit

I love Halloween! I love scary movies, horror novels and things that go bump in the night! I blame this entirely on my mama who didn't realize that my sister and I would sneak downstairs to watch horror movies in the middle of the night, I also started reading Stephen King novels at a very early age because of wanting to read something really scary. This is a mix of books and movies which I try to read or watch around this time of year along with a couple of new things that are new.

Stephen King's IT

The Amityville Horror

Hocus Pocus

The Omen

Something Wicked This Way Comes

The Woman In Black

An English Ghost Story

Horrorstor
The Birds

Book Haul #88 - Model of Restraint!

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly event hosted on Tynga's Reviews where we can share what new books we've picked up this past week be they bought, borrowed or downloaded. There are also lots of other 'book haul' memes out there for you to choose from!

So... I haven't done a book haul post for five weeks! I haven't been well, my attention is shot to pieces and I ended up in hospital again. The only good thing about feeling awful is that I've barely requested any review copies, not really bought a few books and requested three, yes that's three, titles from the library. This may all change today though as I'm at BristolCon with lots of amazing authors and great people. Providing I don't pass out or embarrass myself in any way there could well be pictures!

So, I'm not a in a reading slump. Well, I am but there's a reason! My thyroid has gone supernova again and so I'm experiencing all the side effects again - including exhaustion, insomnia and chronic laziness! I'm hoping to get it under control soon so I actually feel like reading & blogging again properly, stay tuned for updates!

I've been doing quite well with the not buying books, now I just need to get my Netgalley/Edelweiss requesting under control too! This is what's arrived in my house over the last two weeks, huge thanks to Titan for a book by one of my favorite teenage authors and for book four in a series that I've been meaning to start for quite some time!
