Bookmarked... #29

The return of the (mostly) weekly post letting you all know what I'm reading and have lined up for the week! It's my own version of Sheila at Book Journey's It's Monday What Are You Reading who very kindly gave her permission to rename it for my own nefarious reasons... IMWAYR is now hosted by the lovely Kathryn at Book Date.

It's been a traumatic week, one that I shan't go into detail about but suffice to say if I hated hospitals, needles, and IV infusions before I really hate them now. I am so sure I read more than the books I've listed but my brain is on holiday thanks to all the stress and my reading journal is completely messed up!

Finished

Connie Carew & The House Of Eyes
Into The Trees
The White Tower
The Witches Of Cambridge

Currently Reading

The Dragon's Path
Hekla's Children
The Spirit Rebellion

I'm slowly getting out of the habit of picking up all the shiny new pretties as soon as I get them and instead, I'm reaching to the back of my bookshelves and starting to read more of my poor books that have been languishing for years! #ShelfLove is going quite well so far but it does mean there will probably be quite an eclectic mix of books over the coming weeks and months. Here's what I've been reading over the last couple of weeks.

Finished

The Breakdown - B A Paris
Breaker - Kat Ellis
Hacked - Tracy Alexander
Killing Me Softly - Nicci French
The Spirit Thief - Rachel Aaron
When Rose Wakes - Christopher Golden

We're now 2 weeks into 2017 and so far, so good! I've read some great books so far this year but I'm waiting for my first dud to turn up. The Bird Tribunal, written by Agnes Ravatn and translated by Rosie Hedger, was beautiful and I loved the writing so I shall be on the lookout for more, both by Agnes Ravatn and Orenda Books. I devoured The Invisible Library and loved it, enough to wish I had a paperback copy rather than Kindle but good book buying habits are in progress so not right now... Here's what else I've started, finished, and am still reading.

Finished

The Bird Tribunal - Agnes Ravatn
Loved this creepy Swedish psychological suspense novel, beautifully translated!

The Invisible Library - Genevieve Cogman
It's a book about books and a library, what's not to love? Review coming up shortly!

Started

The Girl Who Lied - Sue Fortin
I've actually finished this now. A suspense novel set in Ireland involving two former best friends from school and a secret.

Pantomime - Laura Lam
Oh, I wish I had this pretty cover copy of Pantomime. I still have the original cover when it was released through Strange Chemistry and it's been on my shelves since the day it was released.

The Witch's Kiss - Elizabeth & Katharine Corr
A reread for the blog tour for the second book, I rather like this YA book about a girl who finds out she's a witch.

Still Reading

The Fireman - Joe Hill
Taking my time over this as I said I would, although it's not easy! I'm about 125 pages in and want to dive in but it's not exactly a book you can drop in your bag...

Here we are, at the start of yet another year and hopefully one full of good books and plenty of reading! Here's what I've been reading over the last 7 days.

Finished

The Dry - Jane Harper
A great debut thriller, I'm on the blog tour for this and my review will be up tomorrow.

Sleeping Murder - Agatha Christie
One of my favorite books but I'm not a fan of the television adaptations, not even the one with Joan Hickson.

Currently Reading

The Fireman by Joe Hill
I've owned this since the day it came out but have put off reading it. No longer! I am going to take my time over this one.

Up Next

The Invisible Library - Genevieve Cogman
I've been meaning to start this series since book 1 was released. I'm going to at least make a start by reading book 1!

The Witch's Kiss - Katharine & Elizabeth Corr
I'm on the blog tour for the 2nd book in the series so this is a reread for me to refresh my memory.

I thought I'd got a lot of reading done this week but looking back on my reading journal tells another story. I still don't know what I did with my spare time over the last week as I don't seem to have achieved much! I did start watching some horror movies in preparation for my R.I.P. & Spooky Sunday posts but apart from that? Nothing much got done...

Read

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17553446-in-the-woods

I absolutely loved In The Woods! I honestly don't know why it's taken me so long to read it. I own a copy of this but it's been so long since I bought it that it's gone AWOL and I had to borrow a copy from the library.

Mixed feelings about Mr. Splitfoot... I loved some of it and hated some of it. That probably explains why it's taken me so long to read it!

Still reading

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18073726-dead-silent

I'm struggling with this one. I quite enjoyed the first book but this one isn't holding my attention.

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/23746546-let-me-tell-you

I'm savouring this book. I'm such a huge fan of Shirley Jackson so I like to take my time with everything I read or re-read! Let Me Tell You is more than likely going to end up on my top ten books of the year list.

Started

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/20989321-the-unquiet-house

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/28447390-fell

Both of these are for my R.I.P. challenge! Alison Littlewood is fast becoming a favorite author for me. I love Path Of Needles and A Cold Season, I'm really enjoying Unquiet House so far and I just got Hidden People from Netgalley so that may well be next on the reading pile! I picked Fell up on a whim at the library but so far, so good!

What have you been reading recently? Or not?!

Two weeks worth of reading for me, crammed into one week... Bout of Books 17 was a total bust for me. I started a book on day 1 and that was it, I somehow managed not to read again until the day BoB finished. I've no idea why but I'm pleased that it was a temporary non-reading blip otherwise I don't know what I'd be doing!

More great reading this week along with a really disappointing read, one that I was so excited to read but turned out not to hit the mark. It's Bout of Books this week so I have a fantastic stack of books lined up including 4 more of the Fables collections and some middle grade reading too. I'll be updating via Instagram and Twitter for the first 2 days as I'm away but will then update on the blog after that.

Your eyes do not deceive you, this is a new edition of Bookmarked... just one week after the last one! Miracles never cease. More great books this week, including a few from my TBR pile in a valiant effort to get through some more of my own books rather than reading review and library books. I may not have enjoyed P C Cast's House of Night series but her Goddess books are actually pretty good. I have all of them on my TBR pile but I've reread the first 2 this week so I can carry on with the rest before I donate them either to the library or to the secondhand book store.

Yet again more than a month has passed between my Bookmarked... posts. I can't seem to get organised these days but there's always hope! I've read some good books recently and LFCC & YALC has been and gone. I am definitely going to write a post about that this year, especially as I've read on quite a few blogs things that resonated with me hugely! On to the books! I've read some great books recently, reviews of which are in the making - I promise...

Finished

The Apprentice Witch - James Nicol
Blackfin Sky - Kat Ellis
The Creeper Man - Dawn Kurtagich
Hold Still - Nina LaCour
The King Of Rats - Melinda Salisbury
Natural Causes - James Oswald
Something Wicked - Kerry Wilkinson
Under Rose-Tainted Skies - Louise Gornall

Currently Reading

Lydia - Natasha Farrant
The Nowhere Emporium - Ross MacKenzie
Rat Queens Vol. 2 - Kurtis J Wiebe, Roc Upchurch,
This Savage Song - Victoria Schwab

Put On Hold

This decision was not made lightly and was made in accordance with advice from the author herself! Basically Victoria (I've met her 4 times now, I feel like I can call her that...) noticed what page I was on when she was signing my copy of AGoS on Friday, said that I was about to read her most favorite part of the book and that I might be better off waiting to finish it when A Conjuring Of Light is not SIX. MONTHS. AWAY.

I am ever hopeful that I will get these Bookmarked... posts out on a slightly more regular basis. Life however has a habit of getting in the way of both reading and blogging. I thought I had a whole 10 days to catch up on reading, writing some reviews(!) and catching up on comments and blogs but instead I've got tomorrow at home and then I'm off again! Anyway, this is what I've finished recently and what I've got bookmarks stuck in currently.

Finished

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/21329.Fables_Vol_3

Continuing to love Fables! The fact that they count towards my Fairy Tale challenge is nothing to do with it!

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/21325.Fables_Vol_4

In fact, I'm kicking myself for taking so long to start reading them. Thankfully the library seem to have most of the series so I shall only have to beg/borrow/steal the last 2!!!

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/20299683-rat-queens-vol-1?ac=1&from_search=true

Rat Queens! Let me count the ways! I adored Rat Queens and was extremely peeved to discover the library didn't have any more...

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/25950844-dead-secret?ac=1&from_search=true

A decent thriller about a woman in prison for killing her husband but is he really dead? A quick read, finished this in about 3 hours and enjoyed it.

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/21399241-don-t-even-think-about-it#

I'd heard lots of good things about Sarah Mlynowski so thought it was about time I checked her out. To be honest I wasn't hugely impressed but I will get the sequel, Think Twice, because I want to know what happens.
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/27973757-the-girl-of-ink-and-stars?ac=1&from_search=true

The Girl Of Ink And Stars was fantastic, and the illustrations only made it better! Great YA fantasy from a debut author...

Absolutely loving this, borrowed from the library but definitely buying a copy!

Another one where I'm so annoyed that I took so long to get round to reading it...

Rereading before I read In Ashes Lie again and loving the stunning new covers from Titan!
