Book Haul #128, Or The One Where I Nearly Succeeded...

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly event hosted on Tynga's Reviews where we can share what new books we've picked up this past week be they bought, borrowed or downloaded. There are also lots of other 'book haul' memes out there for you to choose from!

Two weeks today I'll hopefully be sitting in a writing workshop at ComicCon and fingers crossed won't have spent all my money on Funko Pops! I've been really good this week, the only books I bought were these gorgeous new British Fashion Designer Editions of Beatrix Potter stories for the 150th anniversary. If you follow me on Instagram you'll have already seen my photos and how beautiful they really are. In review titles I finally got my hands on The Women In The Walls by Amy Lukavics and the new Natalie Richards which sounds far creepier than her previous novels...

Bought

The Tale Of Squirrel Nutkin (designed by Preen)
The Tale Of Mrs Tiggy-Winkle (designed by Orla Kiely)

Waiting On Wednesday #153 - The Women In The Walls

Waiting On Wednesday, where we put the spotlight on upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating, is hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine.

This week's choice is -

The Women In The Walls - Amy Lukavics
ISBN - 9780373211944
Publisher - Harlequin Teen
Release date - September 27 2016

Lucy Acosta's mother died when she was three. Growing up in a Victorian mansion in the middle of the woods with her cold, distant father, she explored the dark hallways of the estate with her cousin, Margaret. They're inseparable - a family.

When her aunt Penelope, the only mother she's ever known, tragically disappears while walking in the woods surrounding their estate, Lucy finds herself devastated and alone. Margaret has been spending a lot of time in the attic. She claims she can hear her dead mother's voice whispering from the walls. Emotionally shut out by her father, Lucy watches helplessly as her cousin's sanity slowly unravels. But when she begins hearing voices herself, Lucy finds herself confronting an ancient and deadly legacy that has marked the women in her family for generations...

Having loved Daughters Unto Devils this sounds just as creepy and YA horror is is a lot better these days than it used to be! Looking forward to getting my hands on a copy of this one as soon as possible...

Book Haul #122, Or The One Where I Gave In And Bought Books...

So yes, as you may have gathered I finally caved and bought books but in my defence it was a bargain too good to refuse... Excuses, excuses but as I'm attempting to work my way through all of Agatha Christie's books it had to be done. I got all five of the Tommy & Tuppence books for less than $10/£7! It was school vacation here and the twins turned six, we made a cake for them again this year and I think it turned out pretty well! They certainly enjoyed it anyway...

Book Haul #100

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly event hosted on Tynga's Reviews where we can share what new books we've picked up this past week be they bought, borrowed or downloaded. There are also lots of other 'book haul' memes out there for you to choose from!

My name is Fi and I'm a bookaholic, it's been thirty eight days since I last bought a book and I want need to buy books!!! Seriously though, I'm still on the straight and narrow when it comes to book buying. I think this may well be the longest I have ever gone without buying a book since I was too young to buy books myself, a very long time ago... I suspect that the amazing review books I've received this week have something to do with it all again. I've been so excited about review books that I've not had the inclination (much!) to buy books. Only thing is my last couple of requests were approved this week and one last-minute request on Netgalley/Edelweiss and I got great book mail so Operation Netgalley/Edelweiss Cold Turkey hasn't started yet. Definitely Monday though...

Waiting On Wednesday #104 - Shadow Study

Waiting On Wednesday, where we put the spotlight on upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating, is hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine.

This week's choice is -

Shadow Study (Soulfinders #1) - Maria V Snyder
ISBN - 9780778317401
Publisher - Mira/ Harlequin Teen
Expected release date - February 24 2015

New York Times bestselling author Maria V. Snyder wowed readers with Poison Study, the unforgettable story of poison taster Yelena. Now she's back with a new tale of intrigue.

Once, only her own life hung in the balance.

Oddly enough, when Yelena was a poison taster, her life was simpler. But she'd survived to become a vital part of the balance of power between rival countries Ixia and Sitia. Now she uses her magic to keep the peace in both lands and protect her relationship with Valek.

Suddenly, though, they are beset on all sides by those vying for power through politics and intrigue. Valek's job - and his life - are in danger. As Yelena tries to uncover the scope of these plots, she faces a new challenge: her magic is blocked. She must keep that a secret - or her enemies will discover just how vulnerable she really is - while searching for who or what is responsible for neutralizing her powers.

Yes, the days of tasting poisons were much simpler. And certainly not as dangerous.

"Doing full justice to the plot of this original and entertaining epic fantasy is impossible. Suffice it to say that the action is nonstop. The many characters leap to life, particularly Yelena, whose first-person narrative is riveting."
~ RT Book Reviews on Fire Study

I devoured Poison Study and its sequels so when I heard that the story was continuing I wasn't sure whether to be ecstatic or worried. I'm hoping that Shadow Study is going to do the first six books justice and I can't wait to get my hands on a copy. Having said that I'll probably dither over reading it for six months before running the risk of reading it...

Book Haul #49

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly event hosted on Tynga's Reviews and Letterbox Love is a UK edition hosted by Narratively Speaking. Here we can share what new books we've picked up this past week. There are also lots of other 'book haul' memes out there for you to choose from!

Good thing this post was already scheduled, I'm using my Kindle to fill in some bits as we've been without phone/internet for most of the week! No idea why but hopefully, as you're reading this, it's fixed. I'm at my sister's again this week, lots of things happening including more babysitting, cake club and probably the most exciting signing I've been to this year. I promise to try and get photos but I have a feeling this is one event that's going to be very crowded! Anyway, here's this week's haul. Another quiet-ish week for me, especially as I was at BristolCon where I managed to buy just one book!

Bought

Unnatural Creatures - Neil Gaiman

The Iron Traitor - Julie Kagawa

From BristolCon

Looking Landwards - Adrian Tchaikovsky et al

From Quirk

Princesses Behaving Badly - Linda Rodriguez McRobbie

Edelweiss

Servants of the Storm - Delilah S Dawson
