Waiting On Wednesday, where we put the spotlight on upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating, is hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine
This week it's the arrival of Under My Hat: Tales From The Cauldron edited by Jonathan Strahan.
The UK Edition, published by Hot Key Books and due for release on October 4 2012
The US edition, published by Random House Books For Young Readers later this month on the 28th.
It's a collection of magical short stories from authors such as Neil Gaiman, Holly Black, Diana Peterfreund, Margo Lanagan, Tanith Lee and two of my top ten authors - Jane Yolen and Charles de Lint.
"A stellar cast of
acclaimed fantasy writers weave spellbinding tales that bring the world
of witches to life. Boasting over 70 awards between them, including a
Newbery Medal, five Hugo Awards and a Carnegie Medal, authors including
Neil Gaiman, Garth Nix and Holly Black delve into the realms of magic to
explore all things witchy... From familiars that talk, to covens that
offer dark secrets to explore, these are tales to tickle the hair on the
back of your neck and send shivers down your spine." - Goodreads
I never used to read short stories but after receiving several of the Years Best anthologies I love them, perfect for dipping in and out of whenever you've got a spare minute or two. The best things about this anthology? Not only does Charles de Lint contribute a story - 'Barrio Girls' - but Neil Gaiman's offering - Witch Work - is a poem!
What are you waiting for this week?
