Top Ten Tuesday #31 - Covers I Wish I Could Redesign

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely people at The Broke and the Bookish. This week's topic is -

Top Ten Covers I Wish I Could Redesign

Hmm, not my favorite topic. I really struggled with this one, either I don't pay enough attention to covers (which I'm pretty sure I do) or I have really bad taste (which I'm pretty sure I don't) but the covers I ended up picking aren't necessarily bad, they're just not great either. I love the actual books and/or authors if I haven't read them, before there's any confusion - apart from one, bonus points if you guess correctly! It's only the covers that would make me think twice about picking the book up.

Earthsea Trilogy - Ursula Le Guin
One of the first science fiction/fantasy books I ever read, just no to this cover...

Wolfsbane - Andrea Cremer
I loved the cover of Nightshade, it was so pretty! Then they did this to the sequel...

Lord of the Fading Lands - C L Wilson
It's been a while since I read this but I cannot forget that cheesy cover!

The Devouring - Simon Holt
This cover just freaks me out! And it's a YA cover! And yes, this is the UK cover. The US version is not fantastic but it's better than this.

The Casual Vacancy - J K Rowling
No explanation needed...

The Bronze Horseman - Paullina Simons
This is the cover of Bronze Horseman that I read, I'm hoping there are prettier ones out there. If so many people hadn't recommended this one I wouldn't have bothered going purely on the cover and I would have missed out on an amazing book!

Camelot Burning - Kathryn Rose
This is a steampunk retelling of the Arthurian myth, not out until next year. If I didn't know that's what it was this cover, even though there are a couple of hints, would ensure I didn't read it. It's just not my sort of cover but I am desperate to read the book anyway.

Froi of the Exiles - Melina Marchetta
I like this book but that particular cover is just... wrong.

A Clash of Kings - George R R Martin
I absolutely adore all of the ASoIaF books but they seriously need a makeover. I find it hard to believe that the only idea they had for Clash of Kings was a crown!

Shift - Jeri Smith-Ready
I could have picked any cover from this series and nobody would have a clue that it was a YA paranormal book, just from looking. This particular one is too generic, or even worse, reminiscent of the sort of books like those that are never named on this blog but are quite Grey...

  1. I'm not a fan of The Casual Vacancy cover either. It's too boring for my liking, and really puts me off from reading it, which is bad, I know!

    1. The cover of Casual Vacancy makes me not want to ever pick it up! I've heard both good and bad reviews so I'm quite happy not to read it.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  3. I should have added The Casual Vacancy to my list as well. BORING. I included the Nightshade redesigned covers on my list as well. I loved the original covers. I am happy I received an ARC of Wolfsbane with the old cover because that cover is awful.
