I always swore blind that I would never buy any sort of e-reader, vehemently! I remember having long conversations about them with my mother about how much we loved books as well as reading, and that poking a bit of plastic just wasn't the same! I wavered a bit when authors started doing novellas only available online or as a Kindle book so I downloaded the Kindle app for PC whilst holding firm to my stance on never actually buying one.
Then Amazon did something that got to me... They released the Kindle Fire HD, where not only could you read but you could watch movies, check email, tweet, play games - just about anything you could do on the PC. I must have been brainwashed because yesterday morning this arrived!
And inside was this...
For the last 24 hours I have tweeted, played Mahjong and Hangman, downloaded Goodreads & LOVEfilm, watched Despicable Me and added film after film to my watchlist! The only thing I haven't done is read a book on it, I still haven't decided what's going to be the first 'proper' Kindle book I buy.
Leave a comment with what book you think I should buy and you could win a brand new copy of The Gathering Dark by Leigh Bardugo (aka Shadow & Bone)
I'll ship internationally and choose a winner on February 6 so start leaving suggestions!

I haven't been reading this blog for that long, so I'm not entirely sure what books you have and haven't read... The first book I read on my kindle (I know, I said I wouldn't get one either!) was The Fault in Our Stars – which was amazing! It's the only book that has ever made me cry... I'd also recommend Daughter of Smoke and Bone though – it's my favourite ever fantasy! Sorry if you have read either of those.

If you haven't read Reason to breathe by Rebecca Donovan . Its my favorite read in 2012 and I think it will be one of my favorite for a really really long time. I think you should give it a try. It's the kind of book tgat sticks with you . But if you are looking for a light read then id say Lola and the boy next door . Or my life nextdoor by Huntely Fitzpatrick.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your new Kindle and have a nice day :))
I am glad you are enjoying your new ereader. I have a Kindle and it has really opened my eyes to new authors and I love finding great deals on them. A Discovery of Witches is one of my favorite reads too and though I need to catch up on the BDB series by JR WArd I always look forward to their books. I checked your best of 2012 and notice a lot of paranormals. I recommend The Taker by Alma Katsu (gothic paranormal). Also, Reason to Breathe by Rebecca Donovan (the comment above reminded me). YA romance (intense!).

The Archers of Avalon series is amazing! It won't disappoint you. I also recently finished Clockwork Angel and loved it. I haven't read much of this blog, so I don't know what you have or haven't read. But those series are great and won't disappoint.

You should enjoy the benefit of being able to read a massive hardback and not having to heft it around in bed :D I suggest Sanderson's A Memory of Light, 908 pages you won't have to hold up!
ReplyDeleteIf little sis hadn't already bought said hefty tome for me I would have said great idea! Think I'd get away with trying to return it???
DeleteD'oh! Right, in which case I'm switching my vote to Fifty Shades of Grey, which is perfect for Kindle because when anyone asks what you're reading you can say Dickens :D
DeleteI say you should hit up a huge classic, like Les Miserables!

I recently read a the Species Intervention #6609 series written by Kelly Accinni - type of sci-fi/dystopian: Baby, Echo, Armageddon Cometh and Hives. The fifth should come out soon.
ReplyDeleteI finally succumbed to an e-reader, albeit a Sony, since I live in Europe and not everything is geared up to Amazon here. It takes some getting used to, and I still miss not being able to flip through the pages, especially when writing reviews. It took some getting used to and it's so easy to carry around!
Enjoy your Kindle!
