IMM is hosted by Kristi at The Story Siren and gives everyone an opportunity to showcase new books received during the week, whether they're bought, borrowed or the dreaded download!

Another quiet week but a good one! One of the three books I've been waiting for all year finally arrived and another new Terry Pratchett as well!

Water Witch by Carol Goodman aka Juliet Dark - I read Incubus (Demon Lover) earlier this year and liked it. Hoping this one will be just as good!

Shadowfell by Juliet Marillier - always cause for celebration when I get a new Juliet Marillier book, one of my top ten authors.

Dodger by Sir Terry Pratchett - I've heard very mixed reviews about this but I intend to enjoy his writing while I can!

Waiting On Wednesday #10 - Iron Hearted Violet

Waiting On Wednesday, where we put the spotlight on upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating, is hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine
This week's WoW is one I discovered on someone else's WoW a few weeks back - I'm ashamed to say I can't remember who! - and after reading the synopsis (and falling in love with the cover!) I promptly went off to pre-order it.

'The end of their world begins with a story.
This one.
In most fairy tales, princesses are beautiful, dragons are terrifying, and stories are harmless. This isn't most fairy tales.

Princess Violet is plain, reckless, and quite possibly too clever for her own good. Particularly when it comes to telling stories. One day she and her best friend, Demetrius, stumble upon a hidden room and find a peculiar book. A forbidden book. It tells a story of an evil being -- called the Nybbas -- imprisoned in their world. The story cannot be true -- not really. But then the whispers start. Violet and Demetrius, along with an ancient, scarred dragon, may hold the key to the Nybbas's triumph . . . or its demise. It all depends on how they tell the story. After all, stories make their own rules.

Iron Hearted Violet is a story of a princess unlike any other. It is a story of the last dragon in existence, deathly afraid of its own reflection. Above all, it is a story about the power of stories, our belief in them, and how one enchanted tale changed the course of an entire kingdom.'

Teaser Tuesday #9

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading

Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

This week's snippet is from Masque Of The Red Death by Bethany Griffin, I'm about halfway through and really enjoying it so far but then I'm a sucker for a pretty cover and anything influenced by the great Edgar Allan Poe is always going to get read by me.

'Elliott has a small steam carriage, faster and less elaborate than April's. The seats are close together, and I'm aware of him beside me, that my bare knee is touching his leg, but as we navigate the streets I forget him and stare out at the rubble.'

What's your teaser this week?

Best laid plans, they never go as you think they will! Same with my reading, especially recently! Here's what I have and haven't read...

Temporarily put down

I'm away for a few days this week and I have my 2 year old niece & nephew staying so I don't think I'm going to have much time for anything never mind reading! Hopefully Thursday a review of God Save The Queen will be up along with brief thoughts on Girl Of Nightmares, The Devouring and Masque Of The Red Death if I finish it in time! And don't forget to check back in a few hours for a new giveaway!

What have you been reading?

In My Mailbox #10

IMM is hosted by Kristi at The Story Siren and gives everyone an opportunity to showcase new books received during the week, whether they're bought, borrowed or the dreaded download!

A super quiet week again in my mailbox! I can't seem to win, when I need to save I buy loads of books but when I'm trying to buy books I don't find anything I really want to read! Anyway, here's what I got this week.

Carnival Of Souls - Melissa Marr

We Have Always Lived In The Castle - Shirley Jackson

The Demon Code - Adam Blake

God Save The Queen - Kate Locke

The Demon Code was an impulse buy, it's about an ancient manuscript/book so that means I'll read it and I've already read God Save The Queen & loved it!

Waiting On Wednesday #9 - Etiquette & Espionage

Waiting On Wednesday, where we put the spotlight on upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating, is hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine

I orderd this one long before the cover was released, the author is on my 'auto-buy' list and I loved the title!

Ettiquette & Espionage - Finishing School #1
Gail Carriger
Little Brown & Company

February 13 2012

"It's one thing to learn to curtsy properly. It's quite another to learn to curtsy and throw a knife at the same time. Welcome to finishing school.

Fourteen-year-old Sophronia is the bane of her mother's existence. Sophronia is more interested in dismantling clocks and climbing trees than proper etiquette at tea--and god forbid anyone see her atrocious curtsy. Mrs. Temminnick is desperate for her daughter to become a proper lady. She enrolls Sophronia in Mademoiselle Geraldine's Finishing Academy for Young Ladies of Quality.

But little do Sophronia or her mother know that this is a school where ingenious young girls learn to finish, all right--but it's a different kind of finishing. Mademoiselle Geraldine's certainly trains young ladies in the finer arts of dance, dress, and etiquette, but also in the other kinds of finishing: the fine arts of death, diversion, deceit, espionage, and the modern weaponries. Sophronia and her friends are going to have a rousing first year at school."
- Goodreads

This is the US hardcover, as of yet there is no cover for the UK paperback but will post it when there is! I'm hoping it's the same gorgeous cover but as I've pre-ordered the one above it doesn't matter to me. This new series is set in the same universe as Ms. Carriger's Parasol Protectorate series but events take place 25 years before.

What's your WoW this week?

Today's teaser comes from a book which has been on my wishlist for quite a while, The Abused Werewolf Rescue Group by Catherine Jinks.

"Being Dingo Boy was bad enough, but being naked Dingo Boy would have been much, much worse. I wouldn't have survived the jokes, can you imagine the kind of abuse I'd have copped on my first day back at school?"

Remember to leave a link to your teasers!

In My Mailbox #9

IMM is hosted by Kristi at The Story Siren and gives everyone an opportunity to showcase new books received during the week, whether they're bought, borrowed or the dreaded download!

A quiet week for me as I've been total fail in everything, I promised reviews but they're still in longhand in my notebook rather than on the computer - don't worry, they will go up! I also just want to say that I won't ever really go into personal detail about my life but I want to let you know in advance that things may be a little random around here for a while. We found out what exactly is wrong with my mother but unfortunately it's the news that nobody wants to hear and the prognosis is not good so please bear with me and I'll get things running properly soon!

Now on with the good news, here's what I bought!

Boneland by Alan Garner - mentioned here in a previous WoW post

The Spirit Rebellion by Rachel Aaron - bought book 1 last week!

The Spirit Eater by Rachel Aaron

The Scorch Trials by James Dashner - bought books 1 & 3 a few weeks back

Defiance by C. J. Redwine - arrived this morning!

What did you get? Leave me a link!
