Bitter greens is one I really want to read! Have you tried Susanna Kearsley? You also might like Sally Green and the Half Bad Trilogy. I just finished book 2 and loved it! Now the long wait for book 3. :(

I highly recommend Tom Holt and Jasper Fford if you haven't read any of their stuff yet. Both are wonderful writers. I've never managed to read a book from either of them without laughing at loud and it's easy to loose yourself into their works.

I think you might like Patricia A. McKillip. All of her books are similarly wonderful but to be less vague, I'd say "Winter Rose' is a good start!

I have only heard of Juliet Marillier. I have been really wanting to read Shadowfell. I suggest Tamora Pierce. I really enjoy her fantasy novels.

Ohhh ... Frances Hardinge is definitely an author I'd also recommend, but to offer you a different author to the ones you suggested yourself - you should definitely check out Jackson Pearce's books (I especially adore her fairytale retellings, eg "Sisters Red").
